When reading polymer clay courses and tutorials we always find the problem of the thicknesses of the pasta machine, as each manufacturer uses different measures. So when you read that you have to make a "fine" sheet or a "number 4" sheet, we are not sure how to interpret it..
The artist Maggie Maggio devised a system to standardize the pasta machine settings given using poker cards, a very simple system that we will use in our courses and tutorials. Our friend Ana Belchí speaks of this system in an article in her blog, which we certainly recommend adding to your favorites:

For example we have that the Atlas pasta machine that we generally use in our workshop has the following thickness settings and its equivalence in number of cards:
Setting | # of Cards |
---|---|
0 | 10 |
1 | 9 |
2 | 8 |
3 | 6 |
4 | 5 |
5 | 4 |
6 | 3 |
7 | 2 |
8 | 2 |
9 | 2 |
